Tteokguk

Tteokguk (떡국) is a traditional Korean rice cake soup most often eaten during the Lunar New Year, known as Seollal. The dish is made with thinly sliced rice cakes simmered in a clear beef or anchovy-based broth, then topped with garnishes like shredded beef, egg ribbons, seaweed, and green onions. Eating tteokguk symbolizes gaining a year in age and welcoming good fortune for the year ahead. Its warm, comforting flavor and cultural significance make it one of Korea’s most beloved holiday dishes.
